Unisport’s push at the top of the Elite One table suffered a significant blow after they slumped to a surprising 3–0 defeat against AS Fortuna in Yaoundé. In a contest that many expected to test Fortuna’s credentials, it was the home side who rose to the occasion with a ruthless first-half display that left the visitors stunned.

Fortuna wasted little time asserting themselves, pressing high and forcing errors from a usually composed Unisport back line. The breakthrough arrived in the 25th minute when Sébastien Noah punished defensive hesitation to slot home the opener. It was a goal that visibly unsettled Unisport, who struggled to regain their rhythm.

Marc Essono doubled Fortuna’s advantage in the 38th minute, rising above his marker to power in a well-delivered set piece. With Unisport still reeling, the home side struck again on the stroke of half-time. Joseph Pernaud Mbock finished off a swift attacking move in the 45th minute, capping a clinical opening 45 minutes that effectively decided the contest.

Needing a response after the interval, Unisport attempted to raise the tempo but found Fortuna disciplined and compact. Their afternoon deteriorated further when Ngaffa Hermann was shown a red card, reducing the visitors to ten men and extinguishing any realistic hopes of a comeback.

Fortuna comfortably managed the closing stages, protecting their clean sheet and sealing an emphatic victory that strengthens their position in the standings. For Unisport, however, the defeat represents a damaging setback in their title ambitions and raises questions about their defensive resilience and discipline at a crucial stage of the campaign.
