The Nigerian government has officially fulfilled its promise to the Super Eagles, delivering national honors and title documents for houses and land to the players who finished as runners-up at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The presentation took place on December 22, 2025, at the team’s hotel in Morocco, where the team is fine-tuning tactics for its group games

The rewards follow a commitment made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after the team’s second-place finish in Côte d’Ivoire last year.

The event was led by Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC). He was joined by several high-ranking officials, including Senator Abdul Ningi and Hon. Kabiru Amadu, chairmen of the Senate and House Committees on Sports respectively, as well as Ibrahim Gusau, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

During the ceremony, Dikko detailed the specific honors bestowed upon the athletes:

– Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON): Awarded to Ahmed Musa and Victor Osimhen. Both players had previously received the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) and were elevated to this higher rank.

– Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR): Conferred upon team captain William Troost-Ekong in recognition of his performance as the Player of the Tournament at AFCON 2023.

– Member of the Order of the Niger (MON): Awarded to the remaining members of the squad who had not previously received national honors.

He confirmed that all housing and land allocations in Abuja and Lagos have been fully processed.

The Chairman also revealed that the government has extended similar rewards to the Super Falcons (women’s football team) and D’Tigers (men’s basketball team). While their certificates and property documents are ready for collection, the Ministry of Finance is finalizing the direct payment of cash awards, valued at $100,000 per player, into their respective accounts.
