Cremonese’s 2-0 win over Lecce this afternoon in Serie A brought encouraging signs for Cameroon striker Faris Moumbagna, even if he did not make it onto the pitch.
Recently recovered from injury, the forward was finally back in the matchday squad — a welcome return after several weeks on the sidelines. But despite being available, Moumbagna spent the entire match on the bench, as Cremonese opted to ease him in carefully.
Beyond the immediate sporting disappointment, his situation carries a wider implication for the months ahead. Moumbagna is on loan from Olympique de Marseille to Clermont-Nancy, with the deal including a purchase option. However, his recurring injury problems have already raised doubts inside the Italian club.
Sources indicate that Cremonese are increasingly unlikely to activate the release clause, meaning the Cameroonian could be heading back to Marseille at the end of the season unless his fortunes change quickly.
For now, the striker will focus on regaining full fitness and rhythm. His return to the squad is a positive signal — but the next few weeks could be decisive for both his playing time and his long-term future in Europe.
