Atlantic of Kribi have advanced to the eight finals of the 2025 Cup of Cameroon following a comfortable 3-1 win against amateur side Options Sports of Limbe.
Goals from Paul Bara, Oumate and Bajege ensured the Kribi boys stopped the 2021 quarter-finalist in just their first outing of the competition.
Options had qualified for the 16 finals without kicking a ball after their opponents Djiko FC of Bandjoun were absent from their appointment just over a week ago in Douala.
Atlantic that had a descent run in the just-ended MTN Elite Two playoffs championship in Douala needed just 18 minutes at the Melong Municipal stadium to unlock the defensive set up rehearsed by the Southwest Regional League side. Deadly striker Bara fired home the opener just after the quarter hour mark and there was no looking back.
Though Atlantic dominated the clash, they were made to be patient by a combination of resolute defending and top-notch goalkeeping from the Options contingent.
Though the game deserved more than a goal, there wasn’t a second goal by the time the match officials made the halftime call, but not as if that was all on offer.
Just like the start of the first-half Oumate pounced on a well-cooked ball from Ngangue just ten minutes into the second segment and made it 2-0.
Options Sports pulled one back to make it an edgy contest in the final 28 minutes. As they pushed for the leveler, they left spaces in-behind which was exploited by the more experienced outfit.
Bajege sealed the win and a second victory for the Kribi boys when he fired home from a Milol cross at the 70th minute to secure passage into the next round of the competition.
The win for Atlantic puts them through to the last eight for a clash against either 2021 semifinalist Gazelle or 2019 runners-up FAP who face-off on Thursday in a crunch fixture at the Bertoua Municipal stadium.
