- His invaluable contributions to developing talent and guiding teams through the ranks will be greatly missed
The touchline will be a quieter place this season. Coach Jenny Nguegom, the strategist behind Unisport du Haut-Nkam’s recent successes, has passed away.
Reports indicate the veteran gaffer succumbed to illness Monday July 7 at night in the Douala General Hospital.
Nguegom, a true football lifer, was last seen on the touchline during matchday three of the Elite Two playoffs. Despite his visible weakening and pale appearance, he remained committed to the technical bench for all three crucial fixtures, showcasing his ironclad commitment to the beautiful game.
The Unisport technician’s demise comes as a profound blow, particularly as he didn’t have the time to fully savor his squad’s hard-earned promotion to Elite One. For several weeks, his diminished physical presence on the sidelines had been noted during the MTN Elite One playoffs, with the gaffer even missing certain key meetings.
A former formidable defender, Nguegom graced the pitches for top-flight clubs including Union Sportive de Douala and Aigle du Moungo during his playing days. Post-retirement, he seamlessly transitioned into a coaching career, where he forged a formidable reputation as an “Elite ascension” specialist.
His coaching résumé boasts successful promotions with Aigle du Moungo in both 2022 and 2024, culminating in Unisport’s recent jump to the top tier in 2025. His vast coaching experience also included stints with clubs like Union Sportive of Douala and Rangers FC, among others.
Jenny Nguegom’s impact on the domestic scene, particularly his knack for guiding teams out of the second division, leaves a lasting footprint. His strategic mind and passion for nurturing talent will be sorely missed across the Cameroonian football landscape.
