AS Fortuna of Mfou have capped their last game of 2024 with a fantastic 2-0 win against troubled Union Sportif of Douala in an advanced match day five game of the MTN Elite One championship this Thursday at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Annex stadium.
Second half goals from Joseph Mbock and Lauren Missoni were enough to secure a second win for the Center Region outfit who moved up to the 13th spot on the log with six points.
Both clubs entered the contest seeking a reaction as Fotuna was on a run of three defeats in a row while Union Sportif lost heavily last time out against Gazelle FA.
The opening 45 minutes of the game was even as the sides pushed to beat the defensive set up but it wasn’t to be.
Fortuna drew first blood early into the second segment when Mbock beat Benjamin Munya returning into goal for the Nasara Gamakai.
Mbock’s first goal of the season opened up the game as Union pushed to equalise and Fortuna went for the insurance goal.
Fortuna laughed last through Missoni who sealed it for the hosts to secure another win to add to that they picked up in the opening match day of the season away to Gazelle FA of Garoua.
This result takes Union out of the top half of the table with seven points from five games while Fortuna moves to the first position into the relegation zone with just six points at the close of a distressing 2024 during which they lost their president and beat the drop through a playoffs.
The sides will be back in action in the 16-club MTN Elite One championship early next year.
