  • The club’s roster overhaul includes the departure of seven defenders, three midfielders, two goalkeepers, and two strikers

Record Champions of Cameroon Cotonsport of Garoua have signed and unveiled 16 new players in prelude for the 2024/25 season.

The Garoua based club led by president Fernand Sadou these days confirmed the acquisition of Felix Oukine and 15 others brought in for coaches Bonaventure Djonkep and Minkreo Birwe as part of the rebuilding process as a reaction to the disappointment 2023/24 season.

The club has secured the return of former skipper, Oukine and forward Marius Kalgon Kada for a second stint, in addition to Former Eding and Bamboutos FC forward Harrison Ford Djonkep plus Central African Republic defender Marc Yapende who was one of the best players at Bamboutos FC in the past two seasons.

The collection of new players include two Goalkeepers Marcelin Mbahbi from Gazelle FA and Joseph Bessala from Fauve Azur Elite.

In the defensive half of the team, they have roped in Adamou Lifap and Marius Essapa from International and Avion Academy respectively.

There’s a huge addition in midfield with Felix Oukine, Roger Emga, Yapende, Manguele plus experienced Franck Ntsageu.

Cotonsport of Garoua bid farewell to 14 players at the end of last football season. The team, which finished last season without any trophies for the first time since 2020, has injected fresh talent and skillful players into its ranks. Their goal is not only to dominate the Cameroon football scene, but also to make an impact at the continental level.

The club has released seven defenders, three midfielders, two goalkeepers, and two strikers. Among those departing is Emile Lako, named the best goalkeeper at the 2023 Ballon d’Or awards. Lako, who joined Cotonsport last summer, saw limited playing time due to Gabin Allabanant’s status as the first-choice goalkeeper.

Veteran player Yves Alain Dooh Moukoko, who has played for clubs like Yong Sports Academy, Canon Sportive, and Eding, is among the seven defenders shown the exit door. Patrick Etoga, formerly of İstanbulspor, also bids farewell.

Notably, U21 wonder kid Goni Ali, who formed a strong defensive partnership with Che Malon of Simba SC, will no longer be part of the team. Other names on the list include Ibrahim Abba, Mamoudou Hassana Abbo, Frank Achille Nyobe Nyobe, and Boubakari Dairou.

In midfield, former Bamboutos of Mbouda players Benjamin Bieleu and Ako Harry are part of the trio relinquished by the club. The third midfielder is Innocent Assana Nah. Bieleu Benjamin, who scored Cotonsport’s first goal in last season’s playoffs, failed to secure an extension.

Upfront, Eding Sports’ Jean Emmanuel Chamdjou and Moshood Kasali Goma are the two strikers sent packing by the club.

The mass recruitment at the club is therefore an indication of good things to come.

The MTN Elite One championship is expected to resume on October 15 with the Northerners hoping to return to the top of Cameroon football again.
