Dynamo of Douala’s president, Alphonse Bea, has taken a firm stance against USMA following the contentious transfer of Leonel Ateba Christian Mbida.
The Cameroon international joined the club on deadline day in January on a transfer fee around the region of €300 000 while in camp with the national team for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte D’Ivoire.
Unfortunately, since completion of the switch, the 2023 CAF Confederation Cup winners and current Africa Super Cup champions have not met their financial obligations even after receiving multiple reminders from officials of the 1979 Cup of Cameroon winners.
Having exhaust a 30 days payment deadline, the Douala-based club has opted to report the issue to FIFA to inform them about the financial character of the Algerian club.
Speaking to Algerian sports portal Competition.dz, Alphonse Bea laments over the
lack of professionalism displayed by USMA, highlighting their failure to complete the financial transaction despite the timely submission of the necessary documents.
“Since we transfer Ateba to USMA last January, we have not yet received the transfer money. And yet, we did our best to complete the transfer before midnight on January 31, sending the TMS document on time. We are still trying to contact club officials by telephone, but in vain. Frankly, it’s unprofessional of them. Faced with this situation, we contacted FIFA to recover our rights.”
In a video posted on the club’s page on Facebook on March 6, Mahdi Yahi the legal advisor and expert in FIFA regulations for USM Alger, had explained the reasons behind the late transfer of the Ateba funds.
He stated that the club had not received any notification from Dynamo Douala regarding the payment for the transfer. The payment process, he clarified, must be conducted through the Bank of Algeria and is subject to a new procedure established by FIFA, involving the FIFA Clearing House. Yahi reassured that the procedures commenced following the receipt of the player’s CIT and that the club’s president, Kamel Hassena, is diligently overseeing the matter.
Dynamo of Douala has however watered down his explanation pointing out that USMA possesses a currency account, which could have facilitated the transaction weeks prior.
Furthermore, President Bea also corrected the misconception that the transfer funds must pass through FIFA, asserting that the payment should be made directly to Dynamo Douala’s account.
The Algerian club seems unperturbed by the FIFA move as Yahi emphasized that USMA has nothing to fear and that the situation has been clearly and precisely communicated to the legal representatives of the Cameroonian club.
If found guilty, USMA may be banned from transfers while the one-time Etoa Meki (today’s Fauve Azur Elite) and YAFOOT forward will have to return to Dynamo.
Since joining UMSA, the former PWD and Fortuna forward has played five games scoring two goals and two assists.
