- The event has scouts from six clubs in Spain, Italy, and France, who will be looking for the best talents to recruit
- This three-day soccer program will feature eight youth academies from the Wouri division
From November 4th to 6th 2023, the Kadji Sports Academy will host the first edition of the Dream Cup, a new football tournament that will feature the best U18 players from eight academies in the Wouri division.
The event, which is organized by the Football management agency Dream Player Consulting, aims to offer an opportunity for each academy and player to demonstrate their skills and potential to scouts from six clubs in France, Spain and Italy.
The eight participating academies are Cenadd, Kadji Sports Academy, Nal Palmers, Sports Academy Mandjeck, Real Academy of Newbell, Galatique Football Association, ASC Djombo Academy and Real Football Club. They have been carefully selected by the president of the Wouri divisional league. The teams have been divided into two groups and will play 60 minutes matches. There will be no final phase to crown the champion, as the main purpose of the competition is not to win, but to impress.
Roger Gowdock, the founder of the Dream Cup, explains the concept and the objectives of the tournament
“Dream Cup was created in 2022, we wanted to organise a 10 team tournament, but we settled for eight. It will be for three days, very intensive. We have the recruiters here just for three days. We have games lined up, the players have to be very efficient. We will place great importance on the physique, they are not out to offer any favors.”
He adds: “We want these youth players to have fun and also secure a contract. The main objective is to gain better opportunities. The message I want to send across is for them to stay focused on the tournament, dream big. With this tournament, we intend to raise the bar even higher than what others have been doing. We are in the first edition. I think all the teams are ready to participate.”
The Dream Cup hopes to be the window of Cameroonian and African talent. Conceived in 2022, the organizers promise that this will be an annual event that will one day include clubs from other parts of the country. Eric Djemba Djemba and Jean II Makoun are ambassadors of this initiative.
