  • Che Malone will appear in the group stage of the interclub competitions for the third season running
  • Simba SC and Wydad AC will reignite the sparks they produced during last season’s quarter-final.
  • Wamba’s hat trick helped Belouzidad to a second consecutive group stage appearance.

Cameroonian survivors in the group stage of the CAF Champions League for the 2023/24 season – Che Malone Fondoh Junior of Simba SC and CR Belouzidad’s Wamba Leonel Djuffo have been handed tough tasks in the group stage of the competition following Friday’s draw exercise in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Che Malone played a telling role to ensure SC achieved qualification for the group stage of the competition.

Simba SC have been drawn in a tricky group with two underdogs and a heavyweight.

Friday’s draw exercise revealed Simba will need Che even more as they have been drafted into a tough group B that have ASEC Mimosas and Motswanan Jwaneng Galaxy plus last season’s runners-up Wydad Casablanca.

Simba were eliminated by Wydad from last season’s competition after the quarter-final meeting between both sides finished 1-1 after 180 minutes.

The best two clubs from the group will advance to the quarter-final of the competition – a feat Simba has achieved in the past two years.

Wamba’s Belouzidad entered the group stage after a 6-2 aggregate win against Bo Rangers of Sierra Leone.

Belouzidad’s second consecutive appearance at this stage of the competition has earned them a spot in an interesting group D headlined by holders, Al Ahly SC.

CRB have holders Al Ahly SC, last season’s CAF Confederation Cup runners-up Yanga SC and Ghanaian champion Medeama SC to contain during the group stage.

Elsewhere, Group A consists of Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, who won the competition in 2018, Pyramid SC of Egypt, 2010 winners, TP Mazembe (DR Congo) and FC Nouadhibou of Mauritania that eliminated Cotonsport’s conquerers Real Bamako.

Group C has Esperance de Tunis of Tunisia, Angola’s Petro Atletico, Al Hilal of Omdurman in Sudan and the second Tunisian flag bearer, Etoile du Sahel
