  • YOSA has been denied the national club license required to participate in the Elite One Championship for the 2024-2025 season due to unresolved financial disputes with a former player
  • They have been given five days to appeal this decision
  • Despite the setback, the club is actively preparing for the new season with tryout camps across major cities and efforts to recruit new talent

Yong Sports Academy has been denied the national club license required to participate in the Elite One Championship for the 2024-2025 season.

The FECAFOOT Licensing Commission, in a decision dated September 6, 2024, cited non-compliance with Article 51 of the club licensing regulations. This article mandates that clubs must provide proof of no outstanding arrears to current or former employees.

The crux of YOSA’s predicament lies in a long-standing dispute dating back to 2016 with former player Talla Kayo Aime Bosco.

The club was ordered by the national syndicate of Cameroon footballers (SYNAFOC? to pay Talla Kayo a total of 500,000 FCFA, comprising 300,000 FCFA in unpaid bonuses and 200,000 FCFA in damages. However, YOSA has failed to furnish proof of payment, leading to their license denial.

The north west outfit now faces a race against time, with just five days to lodge an appeal against this decision.

The club’s participation in the upcoming season hangs in the balance as they scramble to resolve this financial dispute and meet the licensing requirements.

As per the date of the letter, the five-day appeal period must have been exhausted, with no clear direction from the club or the commission on their final decision

Despite the licensing setback, YOSA is actively preparing for the new season. The club has concluded tryout camps across major cities in the country, including Douala, Yaounde, and is heading to Bamenda come September 24. These efforts are part of their strategy to rebuild and strengthen the squad.

The team, which failed to secure a podium finish last season, is looking to recruit new talent after transferring some of its key players to other clubs. Notable transfers include Hamidou Hamza to Colombe and Ntsague Franck to Cotonsport just to name a few.
