Who/What has taken the North West Regional Football League hostage??

Club presidents and football promoters in the North West region of Cameroon have cried foul due to the continuous delays by football authorities of the region to start the 2022/2023 season at the level of the regional league.

It’s been months since the holding of the General Assembly meeting of the league but to date, nothing has filtered as to when the league will start.

Club presidents and promoters have continued to pay training bonuses without any clue of when the league will begin.

Kick442.com has it on good authority that, the over-centralization of powers at the level of Yaounde is the main problem responsible for the delay in the start of the league.

From our findings, we gathered that it was on Friday, March 30th, 2023 that the FIFA Connect accounts of some clubs were opened by the National office. This means that these clubs only started loading their licenses after that.

A club official who requested anonymity told kick442 that, they will have to wait for Yaounde to validate these licenses and maybe it will be printed in Yaounde and sent to Bamenda.

“It’s terrible what we have been subjected to. It’s like a cross one has to carry to sponsor a football club in the North West region”

“Imagine the number of months we have been training and paying training bonuses to players. It’s discouraging”, he lamented.

Just like the club Presidents, players have also been crying foul.

” Training without knowing when the league will begin is a problem for us. There are times I even thought of stopping training. We are confused”, the player said.

This online portal has also gathered that in the region, everything is centered around the President of the league; the reason why, it’s difficult for others to interfere in Yaounde is for fear of being suspended.

At the time of this report, we gathered that only the licenses of one club (Options Sports Academy Bamenda) out of the 32 clubs in the North West Regional football league have been validated.

Also, unconfirmed sources say that the National Office is yet to disburse funds allocated to the North West region for the running of the league is still to be disbursed.

As the club presidents and promoters of football teams continue to battle it every day to pay their bills and take care of their players, there is an outcry from them and their players about the precarious situation.

The regional league has already started in the South West, West, Centre, South, and Littoral regions.

It’s six months and counting and clubs continue to train without knowing when the league will begin.
