There is a strange silence about Cameroon’s preparations for the 2023 Africa Nations Championship tournament penciled for next month in Algeria.

Players of Cameroon’s Intermediate selection were expected to begin camping on November 10 in preparations for the competition but we understand logistics challenges squashed that.

Alioum Saidou’s intermediate lions overturned a one goal deficit to sail through at the detriment of Equatorial Guinea, thanks to goals from Cotonsport’s duo Kaiba Djawal and Marou Souaibou.

The Cameroon squad is expected to be published in the days ahead, just before the start of the camp expected to begin on December 10.

Per the past, a bulk of the players are expected to be picked from the MTN Elite One championship.

The trainers are expected to base their selection on the performances of players during this season’s championship though time is running out.

Cameroon who were host CHAN 2021 and finished fourth are in group E of the upcoming tournament. One of the two groups of three Nations, alongside Niger who will be in their fourth participation and fellow central zone side, Congo, who will also be featuring for the fourth time.

Cameroon will be in the fifth participation in the competition, hoping to do better, after finishing fourth in the sixth edition of the event at home in 2021. The intermediate lions missed the 2009 and 2014 editions of the competition, but reached the quarter finals in 2011 and 2016.
