Long-serving Stade Renard goalkeeper Wendeu Lako Merlin has hailed Amih Renzo Azong following his remarkable breakthrough season in Melong.
The former ISOHSA forward has been a mainstay in Olivier Nankam’s side since the start of the 2022/23 MTN Elite One championship season, having only moved to the club and top-flight championship less than six months ago.
That has seen Renzo widely regarded as Stade Renard’s best player since former striker Tamo Giresse left the club, with the teenager back to become a star of the Cameroon championship.
Lako has now spoken about his admiration for the young winger, who he believes offers a wide range of talents to his side.
“He’s a multi-talented player who can offer assists, goals, he’s a joy to watch. Truly he has so many qualities and is unpredictable.”
“Tactically he is good and quickly understands what the coach wants. He is very good physically and helps the teams.
“At the moment he is on form and takes lots of risks which ends well for the team,” Lako who has seen it all during his years from Stade Renard, Union Sportive of Douala, Canon Yaounde and back to Stade Renard told kick442.com.
Renzo joined the club in the build up to the current season from ISOHSA. In 11 games this season, he has scored six goals and made three assists.
He was one of the scorer as Stade defeated PWD over the weekend in Bafoussam.
Renzo’s returns this season has earned him a call up to the Cameroon Olympique team preparing for the last round of the U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier matches against Gabon later this month.
The former Buea and Victoria United FC forward’s only previous experience in Elite was for Unisport of Bafang some two years ago but being too young back then he failed to nail a starting spot or even get regular minutes under his belt.
The comments from Lako who is considered as a legend especially in Melong speaks volumes of the potential the 19-year-old possesses.
