Peru will no longer host the 2023 U17 FIFA World Cup scheduled from November 10 to December 2, 2023.
The world governing body, FIFA has withdrawn the hosting of the tournament, following the country’s inability to complete required infrastructures on time.
FIFA announced the decision on Monday in a press release,
“FIFA has regretfully withdrawn Peru’s hosting rights to the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2023™ following extensive discussions between FIFA and the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF)…The move was made given the inability of the host country to fulfil its commitments to completing the infrastructure required to stage the tournament”
With seven months remaining to this competition FIFA will be announcing a new host in due course.
This decision comes days after Indonesia was stripped off the right to stage this year’s Under-20 World Cup, following the refusal of the governor of Bali to host Isreali team.
With FIFA decision pending, the U17 AFCON will go on this April 29 right up to May 19. The four last teams, out of the 12 participants will qualify for the world cup.
