Thousands of Family, friends, football stakeholders and other loved ones gathered in Dschang for the funeral of former Indomitable Lion, Joel Landry Nguemo this Friday.
Nguemo died in a serious road accident on July 27 after his car collided with a truck along the Ebebda-Yaounde road, resulting in the loss of his life and that of his driver.
This Friday, August 16 a battery of ex-footballers, some of who played with Nguemo joined his family this Friday to celebrate his life, close to a month after the former Cameroon international died aged 38.
Tenths of former footballers, including Danny Nounkeu, Aurélien Chedjou and the wider football world came together to say their goodbyes Nguemo in the sombre occasion.
His exploits made Nguemo a prominent figure in African football and beyond for the past 15 years.
Born on November 28, 1985, in Yaounde, Cameroon, he made significant contributions both at the club level and internationally.
The native of Dschang began his professional career with AS Nancy in France, where he showcased his midfield prowess. His tenacity, vision, and ability to control the game caught the attention of football enthusiasts.
He later joined Celtic Glasgow FC in Scotland, becoming a key player in their midfield. His performances earned him recognition and respect from fans and teammates alike.
Nguemo’s journey continued with Girondins de Bordeaux in Ligue 1. He played a crucial role in their midfield, helping the team achieve success in domestic and European competitions.
He proudly represented Cameroon’s national team, the Indomitable Lions. His combative style and tactical awareness made him an essential part of the squad.
The former AS Nancy midfield metronome participated in several Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments, contributing to Cameroon’s successes. His performances in midfield were instrumental in the team’s different tournaments.
Having achieved all of these, his demise has left a huge void in the hearts of those that he won over through his commitment and more.
