Kumba City FC of Kumba is set to be crowned champions of the Southwest Regional when arguably the most controversial football season in the region climaxes this Sunday at the GPS Field in Kumba.
The final was scheduled earlier this week, after Legend FA defeated Tiko United FC via an office decision after their semi-final return-leg game was interrupted by crowd trouble.
In a bizarre turn of events, the Kumba City FC side that defeated Options Sports of Limbe in the quarter-final and Fako United in the semi-final to tee-up a meeting with Legend FA is scheduled to emerge victorious.
Legend FA reached the final via two wins from office decisions against Electsport of Limbe and Tiko United FC, but are set to lose to Kumba City.
Information reaching our editorial team has it that; the club led by the City Mayor of Kumba Gregory Mewanu has taken all necessary dispositions, and is assured to defeat Legend FA and emerge 2025 champions of the region.
Coach Mbaboh Moses’ team was impressive throughout the group phase of the championship, recording impressive results to earn a berth in the knockouts phase of the competition.
However, the good job done by the coach and his players has been dented by events that have unfolded during the Regional League playoffs with some pointing accusing fingers on officials of FECAFOOT Southwest and football bigwigs in the region for pushing for favourable Refereeing decisions especially in the semi-final clash against Tiko United.
As at the time of this report, Kumba City faithfuls are telling anybody that cares to listen that they have settled Legend FA and are headed for the national interpools as representative of the Southwest region for the first time in their seven years of existence.
Whatever the result of today’s final, a club from the city of Kumba will emerge champions of the Southwest Regional League for the first time since PWD of Kumba won the championship in 2019.
