Sunshine Queens Football Club have secured a return to the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), the country’s primary women’s championship after a season in the second-tier league.
The Nigeria Women Football League board made the announcement at the Annual General Assembly meeting (AGA) held in Lagos on Thursday.
Akure Landladies, as they are fondly called were relegated at the end of the 2021/22 season, alongside Pelican Stars, but they have quickly regained their deserved status.
The 2015 Women’s Federation Cup winners got promoted after the just-ended playoffs held in Ogun State after finishing on the second position with 12 points.
The Nigeria Women Football League board made the announcement at the Annual General Assembly meeting (AGA) held in Lagos on Thursday.
Also promoted to the elite Women league include; Lakeside Queens, Dannaz Ladies and Ekiti Queens.
The team Manager of Sunshine Queens, Kehinde Odogun thanked all the critical stakeholders that played a pivotal role in the team’s promotion to the elite league.
“I thank the management for their unwavering support in ensuring that the team return Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL)”
He added that the management of the team will reinforce the team with best legs that will represent the state well when the league start.
The abridged Nigeria Women Football League has been slated to kick off by November 15 .
