West Regional championship outfit Stade Bandjoun FC kept their 100% run in all competitions this season as they defeated vice champions Bamboutos FC of Mbouda 1-2 on Saturday in the eighth final of the 2023 Cup of Cameroon.
Nandje and Patchou scored in either half at the Kouekong Stadium, reducing Mani Koupit’s goal to a consolation as the underdogs won the West region derby, making it 15 wins in 15 games this season.
Coach K. Joseph Victor’s team entered the contest in high confidence after beating 1997 winners Dragon Yaounde 4-0 in the previous round.
Though Bamboutos FC contained the Stade Bandjoun FC attack for most of the first segment, they eventually cracked and let in the first goal scored by Nandje before the break.
Bamboutos FC leveled after the interval but couldn’t hold on as Patchou scored the winner 12 minutes from time to help his club register another victory.
It finished 2-1 in favour of the third tier side, meaning they have eliminated two sides that played in the top-flight championship last season.
Stade Bandjoun FC are on a run of ten wins in ten games in the West Regional championship and have secured qualification for the 2023 play-off.
They join giants Canon Yaounde, Union Sportive of Douala, PWD of Bamenda and Cotonsport of Garoua as the last 16 clubs in the Cup this season.
The 1996 Cup of Cameroon runners-up will be in the eighth final draw expected to be done this week at FECAFOOT headquarters.
