Second edition of Soccer Queens Award set to reward outstanding women’s footballers

After the success of the first edition in Benin City, Edo State capital in 2023, the second edition of Soccer Queens award is set to take place this year.

Taking place in Benin City on October 10, 2024, the organisers of the award intends to reward outstanding women’s football players and officials.

After a successful season of the two tiers Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), 2024 Soccer Queens Award is set to honour players and officials that stood out during the season according to the organiser, Moses Bako Nagogo.

In the NWFL Premiership category, Most Valuable Player (MVP), highest goal scorer, best goalkeeper, best midfielder best defender, and best coach will be honoured.

For the second tier NWFL Championship, the most valuable player, highest goal scorers, and best goalkeeper will also get awards.

Three outstanding personalities who has distinguished themselves in the game of women’s football will also be honoured.

During the maiden edition last year, Chinaza Agoh (Most Valuable Player), Mercy Omokwo (Golden boot), Andeline Mgbechi (best goalkeeper), Sabastine Flourish (best midfielder), Esther Ogbonna Akudo (best defender), and Tosan Blankson (coach of the season) won awards in the top flight category.

Dorathy Eshiet (MVP and highest goal scorer), Lucky Andy (best goalkeeper), and Diana Asak-Johnson (coach of the season) were awarded in the NWFL Championship category.

Finally, Marvelous Akpobaro (MVP), Victoria Collins (highest goal scorer), Hope Agoye (best goalkeeper), and Jimmy Aimuagbonrie (coach of the season) smiled home with awards in the third tier NWFL Nationwide category.
