Sapphire Nigeria Women’s Football Supporters Club set to champion the year 2024 International Day of the Girl Child

Ahead of the 2024 International Day of the Girl Child, Sapphire Nigeria Women’s Football Supporters Club is set to continue the tradition of using the day to support girls and increases the awareness on gender inequalities faced by girls worldwide.

To foster this, the Club is organizing the 2024 Sapphire International Day of the Girl Child with the theme: “Empowering the Next Generation of Female Leaders through Sports”.

The event will take place at the Albati Barracks Stadium, Ojuelegba, Lagos, Nigeria, on October 12, 2024.

The event is intended to bring together former Nigeria Internationals, sports administrators, students, and the general public to celebrate and inspire the next generation of female leaders using sports as a tool.

During the program, there will be a seminar to impact participants, mentorship activities, leadership training, football competition which will feature twelve teams, scouting activities, empowerment activities, and entertainment.

Apart from this, the program intends to impact about 300 girls between 12 and 16 years of age.

Educational support will also be provided to participants through provision of books, uniforms and study materials for at least 100 girls.

Furthermore, there will be an avenue for the scouting of at least 20 players into the Nigeria Women Football League system.

Last year over 400 spectators attended the program. This year, the attendance is expected to double that of last year.

Medical teams will be on ground for the program. A gynaecologist, dentist, and also Medical doctors will speak about preventive care Analysis with loads of prices to be won courtesy of companies coming onboard.

The likes of Unilever and UAC Foods are coming on board to support the initiative.

Sapphire Nigeria Women’s Football Supporters Club facilitator of the International Day of the Girl Child hopes to use sports as a tool to empower young girls thereby helping to reduce gender based violence, human trafficking involving the girl child and out of school children.

It also intends to provide funding for the educational needs of young girls including tuition payment, provision of uniform, support for meals, and transportation amongst others.
