Black Queens captain Portia Boakye has sealed a move to Congolese giants TP Mazembe, becoming the second Ghanaian to join the club after Thelma Baffour.
The experienced defender, who last featured for Swedish side Djurgårdens IF, brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the Mazembe setup as they prepare to defend their CAF Women’s Champions League crown.
Boakye, one of the most capped players in Ghana’s women’s football history, is expected to play a pivotal role both on and off the pitch. Her versatility — capable of operating in defence or midfield — will be key for the Lubumbashi-based side as they look to build on their recent continental success.
TP Mazembe, who lifted the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League title, are fine-tuning their squad for another strong campaign when the competition kicks off later this month.
The defending champions have been drawn in Group B alongside ASEC Mimosas (Côte d’Ivoire), Gaborone United (Botswana), and JKT Queens (Tanzania). Mazembe will open their campaign against ASEC Mimosas on 9 November 2025, before facing the remaining group opponents in matches spread across the coming weeks, as they target a place in the semifinals of this year’s edition.
Boakye’s move is seen as a statement of intent from the Congolese champions, who continue to attract some of Africa’s most experienced talents to bolster their dominance on the continent.
