  • Joseph Antoine Bell, chair of ONIES, has restructured Cameroon’s sports infrastructure management, appointing former sports legends to key positions
  • The reorganization introduces a tiered system of main, secondary, and auxiliary managers for different sports facilities
  • This strategic move, decided in a May 30 meeting, aims to improve the efficiency and management of sports venues in the region

In a decisive move to streamline the management of Cameroon’s sports infrastructure, Joseph Antoine Bell, the chair of the National Office for Sports Infrastructures (ONIES) steering committee, has initiated a comprehensive reorganization.

Under Bell’s leadership, a cadre of celebrated sports icons has been entrusted with key managerial roles. Nicolas Dikoume now helms the Japoma Sports Complex as the chief steward, while Jean Emile Junior Onana takes charge of the Yaounde multipurpose sports complex in a similar capacity.

Supporting these appointments, a team of secondary stewards has been named: Ndip Akem for the Limbe Ngeme Stadium, Njonkep Bonaventure for the Kouekong stadium in Bafoussam, Salomon Olembe for Nfandena, and Adalbert Mangamba for the Bepanda stadium in Douala.

This restructuring replaces the former coordination system with a tiered management framework. The primary tier comprises main managers for sports complexes and multipurpose halls, followed by secondary managers for Omnisports Stadiums, and auxiliary managers for the Parcours vitas, annexes, and municipal stadiums.

The steering committee’s May 30 meeting marked the adoption of this strategic overhaul, categorizing sports facilities into four distinct groups. This reorganization is a strategic endeavor to boost the operational effectiveness and stewardship of sports venues across the region.
