  • Otto Addo helped Ghana past Nigeria to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar
  • He lasted less than 24 months during his first Black Stars tenure but created a massive impact
  • He has signed a 36-month deal with the Ghana football association after being recommended by a five-man committee

The Ghana football Association (GFA) have appointed current Borussua Dortmund assistant coach as the lead trainer of its men’s national team for the second time, as replacement of Chris Houghton.

The appointment is per the recommendation of a five-member committee that was tasked to find a new manager for the Black Stars following the termination of Chris Houghton contract after a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Côte D’Ivoire.

The GFA took to its official handles this Friday, March to announce they had reached a three-year deal with the former international to ensure he returns to the role he occupied during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Coach Addo is expected to be officially unveiled in the days ahead and insider sources tells kick442.com that he has been tasked to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, qualify for AFCON 2025 and achieve a honorable run in the competition.

In the meantime, Addo will join Ghana this international break, then return to Borussia Dortmund to finalise handing over in his role as talent coach, then begin work for the Black Stars in May.

Dortmund confirmed his departure via a tweet;

“Borussia Dortmund and top talent coach Otto Addo will end their long-standing collaboration in the summer. The 48-year-old previously asked Dortmund to terminate his contract to clear him to accept the offer from the GFA, thank you Add.”

Ghana is looking to build via the eyes of coach Addo at back-to-back disappointing AFCON tournaments which all ended in the group stage in Cameroon and Côte D’Ivoire in 2022 and 2024 respectively.
