Former Cameroon International and Lille player Benoit Christian Angbwa has been appointed one of the coaches of the Lille reserve team as deputy to coach Stephane Pichot, a club release has revealed.

Angbwa, 43, resigned from the Cameroon football Federation (FECAFOOT) four years ago after over two years in the institution during which he served as General Coordinator of the national teams and later as deputy Secretary General.

Angbwa enjoyed an honorable career during which he played in France, Russia, Germany before retiring in 2007 but stayed around the game and obtained a UEFA Pro coaching license. Despite not coaching formally for most of his life after retirement, he has practiced as a coach in unofficial capacity and was even helpful to the Cameroon national team staff during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

This job thus offers a real chance for the ex-Lille defender who played for the club during the 2005-2006 season to showcase his knowhow and climb up the ladder like other ex footballers.

Angbwa will be part of the staff in charge of the development squad that counts Cameroonian duo Angel Matam Yondjo and Aris Noubissie in their ranks for the coming season.

The team is expected to compete in the third tier of French football, but most importantly leverage on the experience of members of the staff like Benoit to develop and prepare players for the first team amongst other roles.

While serving Lille the former Indomitable Lions of Cameroon midfielder will continue his ongoing legal battle with FECAFOOT as he claims the FA owes him over two millions FCFA while the other party accuses him of retaining documents of the federation.
