Nigeria’s Stand in Captain, William Troost-Ekong playing his last AFCON games was voted as the Player of the ACON 23 tournament. Ekong had scored three goals in the tournament including the beautiful header in the finals and stood as a rock of Gibraltar in the Nigerian defence.
Nigeria had dropped Ekong from the team that had an unimpressive record at the AFCON Qualifiers until public outcry brought him back into the team. He was refused call to camp because of his alleged agitating spirit for players right.

The Super Eagles players who had stopped weeping enjoyed the guard of Honor from the Champions Elephants of Ivory Coast as they filed out to collect their Silver medals from the top dignitaries including Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima.
Nigeria’s Coach, Jose admitted that the Elephants were far better in the game though his team scored first against run of play. He refused to talk on the future of the Super Eagles saying it is left to the NFF.
Earlier the flag AFCON flag was transferred to Morocco that will host the tournament in 2025.
