- This victory earned Kumba City their first-ever spot in the national interpools
- It marks a big step forward for the club after five years in the regional league
Kumba City FC have booked their spot at the national interpools for the first time in club history after a commanding 3-0 win over city rivals Legend FA in the final of the 2025 Southwest Regional League Mini Interpools.
The game at GPS School Field in Kumba on Sunday July 13, was a typical local derby tense, physical, and competitive from start to finish. Kumba City showed more control and made their chances count when it mattered.
The match burst into life in the 17th minute when Kumba City were awarded a penalty. Enow Nkar stepped up, but his initial effort was parried by Legend FA goalkeeper Enow Pius. However, referee Norbert called for a retake due to encroachment, and Nkar converted on his second attempt to give his side the lead. It was the early breakthrough Kumba City needed to settle nerves.
City continued to control the tempo, and in the 32nd minute, captain and talisman Ngoe Okia doubled the advantage. Timing his run perfectly, Okia latched onto a loose ball inside the box and coolly lobbed it past the keeper.
Legend FA struggled to find answers in midfield, often second to the ball and failing to break through a disciplined City backline. In the 71st minute, Okia completed his brace with a smooth finish, sealing the win and putting the game beyond reach.
Legend FA, despite their strong run to the final, were outplayed in key moments. Their inability to track runners and poor decision-making in the final third allowed Kumba City to manage the game with increasing ease as the minutes wore on.
Promoted to the regional championship just five seasons ago, Kumba City’s rise has been steady and this season, they finally crossed the line after falling short in 2023 against ISOHSA.
Individual honours also followed the final whistle. Ngoe Okia was named Best Player of the championship and top scorer , a nod to his 25-goal season and leadership throughout the campaign.
On the other end of the pitch, Legend FA’s Enow Pius received the Best Goalkeeper award. Despite the scoreline in the final, his saves across the competition and his presence in the box had been key to Legend’s journey.
Off the field, the final drew a large and energetic crowd, with a select number of supporters visibly dressed in team colours, adding to the derby flavour of the contest. The presence of Nfon Mukete IV Ekoko, Paramount Ruler of the Bafaw and Nfon of Kumba, elevated the occasion.
The royal figure handed over the championship trophy to the team captain and the winners cheque of one million FCFA
