Nganbe to guide Victoria United in the CAF CL

Victoria United FC of Limbe have settled for David Deucalion Nganbe as their lead trainer through their run in the CAF Champions League and the rest of the 2023/24 season.

The 57-year-old former Avion Academy of Douala head coach has been appointed and registered by the club, thus bringing an end to his six year stay on the books of Avion Academy of Douala, who were relegated last season.

Nganbe replaces Nicolae Pantev who helped Victoria United to Elite One championship triumph last season but wasn’t retained by the club’s management team.

Cyrille Billong who previously served the club as fitness coach has been confirmed as the new Technical Director to work alongside coach Nganbe.

Both men will be making their debut in the competition though both of them are CAF license A holders for some years now.

Victoria United, CAF Champions League debut will start their campaign against Ghanaian champions, FC Samartex this Sunday in the first-leg of the 2024/25 CAF Champions League preliminaries at the Japoma Omnisport Stadium in Douala, given that their ground in Limbe wasn’t cleared by CAF competitions department.

Victoria United have been preparing for the competition in the past two months and will be hoping to be in their best shape when they face FC Samartex whose preparations for the game has been commendable, having arrived three days ahead of the game.

The first-leg game will be played this Sunday while the return game which will be Nganbe’s second is scheduled next week in Accra.

Victoria United FC and FC Samartex will be hoping to hit crescendo in the two legs and sail through to the next round of the competition, wherein they will face ASGNN of Niger or Moroccan giants Raja Athletic Club of Casablanca in the second round of the preliminaries.

The second round preliminaries are scheduled for next between September 13-23.
