19-year-old Cameroonian international midfielder, Wilfried Nathan Douala, has put pen to paper on a one-year deal with footballing giants Canon Sportif de Yaoundé.
The dynamic engine room operator, formerly of Victoria United, joins the “Kpa-Kum” as a free agent after a brief stint in the Elite One championship last season and a period unattached.
The deal, officially announced on Monday, July 7, 2025, sees Douala secure a signing bonus of 3 million FCFA. This marquee signing is a clear statement of intent from Canon Sportif, signaling their ambition to bolster their ranks and push for top honors in the upcoming campaign.
For Douala, this transfer is a dream come true. “Canon Sportif is a colossal team in Cameroon, a club I’ve admired since childhood,” he stated. “It’s my pleasure to come and continue my career here. I’m not afraid of the pressure; the expectations are sky-high, but I’ll give my all to rise to the occasion. I call on the fans to fill the stadium massively ,together, we’re aiming to lift the trophy!” He explained
The young midfielder had been sidelined for a significant portion of the first half of the year, initially due to injury reports. Despite his absence, particularly in the championship’s return leg, the U20 captain proved his class earlier in the season. He was repeatedly on the scoresheet, bagging over five goals and delivering crucial assists, helping Victoria United rack up vital early-season wins.
His contract with “Opopo” is understood to have expired in June, paving the way for this pivotal move.
Douala brings his exceptional skillset and big-game experience to a Canon Sportif side that endured a shaky previous campaign. The “Mekok Mengonda” weathered a challenging period, flirting with the drop zone, but ultimately clawed their way back to a respectable 7th-place finish, accumulating 41 points from 11 wins, 11 defeats, and 8 draws.
Fans will be hoping that Douala, once a square peg in a square hole for Victoria United, scoring crucial goals when it mattered most, will now be the catalyst for Canon Sportif to mount a serious title charge and and bring silverware back to the club’s trophy cabinet.
