Eight previous winners will be in the draw for the eight finals of the 2023 Cup of Cameroon.
Results over the weekend saw Dynamo of Douala, Canon Yaounde, PWD of Bamenda, Union Sportive of Douala, join Stade Renard of Melong, Fovu of Baham, Eding Sport de la Lekie and holders Cotonsport of Garoua as the previous winners still vying to win this year’s competition.
Previous winners proving their worth
2021 winners PWD of Bamenda showed their pedigree in the competition with the commanding win against Fauve Azur Elite.
Keeper cum keeper Ndiforchu Blaise scored and assisted twice while Leonel Ateba Christian Mbida and James Tendoh Elton doubled as the Abakwa made light work of their 2019 semi-finalist.
Five-time previous winners Canon Yaounde needed penalty shootouts to shrug off gritty Djiko FC. Striker while Stade Renard were 2-0 comfortable winners too. The 2019 winners of the cup beat Fortuna with relative ease to stay on course.
2018 winners Eding Sport de la Lekie dispatched North Regional League side Krimi FC 2-0 to continue their impressive start in competition.
Fovu shocked Astres, beating them 3-0 at the Kouekong Stadium to keep their hopes of repeating the champions feat they achieved in 2001 and 2010.
Two-time previous winner Dynamo of Douala were made to sweat by Isle of Hope Sports Academy of Limbe but they survived the scare with a 2-1 win.
Cotonsport trailed but pegged back APEJES of Mfou before going on to win by 2-1, courtesy a brace from Patient Wassou Goue.
Last year’s semi-finalist Avion Academy were separated in post-match penalties against Aigle Royal of Moungo who couldn’t reach the last eight like last year.
It was an exciting round of matches and produced interesting results.
The pairings and consequently the next round of the cup will happen next week at the FECAFOOT headquarters in Tsinga Yaounde.
