The 2023/24 MTN Elite One championship will resume this weekend as planned. The Cameroon transitional technical committee (CTFP) have announced match day six matches in various venues across the Republic of Cameroon this Sunday and Monday.
Douala is the melting point of match day six as the economic capital will host four of the nine matches including a reunion between Union Sportive of Douala and PWD of Bamenda.
Avion Academy of Douala versus Victoria United FC will set the ball rolling in the lunch time kick-off on Sunday at the Reunification stadium in Bepanda. The jewel which hosted the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) matches just over two years ago will be the platform Victoria United FC will use to go in search of their second win this season while Avion Academy hopes to continue its brilliant start of the season. The 2pm kick-off will be the talking point as fanatics are waiting for Victoria United’s resumption of the championship on the heels of the staged protest masterminded by their president a few days ago in response to Samuel Eto’o’s refusal to hear him on how his first five games were managed by the match officials.
Struggling Union Sportive will be on display in the 4pm kick-off against an interesting PWD of Bamenda side that have pulled two upsets this season against Bamboutos FC of Mbouda and AS Fortuna in the recent outing before the break.
Colombe of Dja will host AS Fortuna in a pulsating appointment at lunch time on Sunday at the Omnisport stadium in Yaoundé while Canon that have dropped points in their past two outings welcomes a Dynamo of Douala that is fresh from a 1-2 defeat against Bamboutos FC of Mbouda – their first this season.
Canon versus Dynamo has been picked as one of the top contest of the weekend as both clubs past and present makes it a must-watch for all interested in the domestic championship.
Canon’s defeat to Astre and the disappointing goalless draw against eternal foes Union Sportive of Douala in the last game before the break has taken them off the perch occupied by Bamboutos FC while Dynamo are second-seeded.
Elsewhere in Mbouda, Bamboutos FC will be out to build on the big away win against Dynamo in Douala during their match day five outing two weeks ago. The Mangwa boys return home to exert their supremacy on everlasting rivals Aigle Royal of Menoua in a West Regional derby. Aigle will enter the contest as underdogs having failed to win in their first five games this season. Coach Olivier Nankam’s Aigle can still create an upset in this fixture though it will take a lot to stop red-hot Ghanaian forward Sampson Kwasi and co.
At the home of the champions, Cotonsport will be out to consolidate on their last 4-1 win against UMS just before the break. They welcome a YOSA side that is yet to win this season.
The game at the Roumde Adjia stadium is a far-fetched opportunity for YOSA to finally get their first win this season or a chance for Cotonsport to make it their first back-to-back.
The other games in Douala have been scheduled on Monday.
Unconvincing UMS of Loum will challenge Fauve Azur Elite in the 3pm contest on Monday the same day and time winless APEJES of Mfou host a Stade Renard of Melong side that has been flying without perching so far this campaign. David Pagou’s men are one of the few unbeaten sides and lead their pool with 13 points from a possible 15.
