In a major boost for football fans planning to attend the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025, the host nation has officially made its e-visa applications completely free of charge. The announcement, made via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, means visitors can now obtain their travel authorisation through the Yalla app without paying any processing fee.
The decision comes just weeks before the continent’s biggest football festival kicks off on 21 December 2025, and is being hailed as a significant gesture of hospitality and inclusion by the Moroccan authorities.
Opening the gates to Africa
Morocco’s move aims to ease travel logistics for thousands of African supporters expected to pour into the country for the month-long tournament. The Yalla platform, which integrates accommodation, ticketing and transport updates, was launched earlier this year as part of the government’s digital readiness strategy for AFCON 2025.
By scrapping the visa fee, Rabat is not only reducing the financial burden on travelling fans but also reinforcing its ambition to deliver one of the most accessible tournaments in the history of African football.
Fans applaud the gesture
For many supporters across the continent, the news couldn’t have come at a better time.
“This is brilliant from Morocco,” said Ibrahim Sissoko, a Malian fan based in Tiko who plans to travel for the group stages. “The visa fees were a real concern for many of us, especially with flight and accommodation costs rising. Now it feels like Morocco truly wants all Africans to be part of this AFCON.”
Anticipation on the rise
With major African cities such as Dakar, Lagos, Douala, and Cairo already experiencing a surge in travel inquiries, the free visa policy is expected to further boost fan attendance. Local organisers are also working with airlines and hotels to manage what could be record-breaking visitor numbers.
For many supporters, this announcement represents more than just a travel convenience—it signals Morocco’s readiness to stage a truly inclusive AFCON.
As the excitement builds, the message from the hosts is clear: Africa, come as you are—Morocco is ready to welcome you for the 2025 AFCON that runs from December 21 to January 18.
