Mohamad Adama scored twice on Saturday to give Avion Academy of Douala a first win of the 2023/24 MTN Elite One championship away in Bafoussam.
Two quick goals early in the second segment helped the visitors bag home all three points in a game YOSA could have won by any score if they were clinical in the final third.
Both clubs entered the contest with hopes of getting their first win of the season after Avion Academy held Fovu at home in day while YOSA returned from their trip away to APEJES with a point in two games that all ended on the 1-1 score.
Coach Ndikum Blaise trusted almost the same XI that had started the APEJES encounter a week earlier with goalkeeper Yindui Mohamed hoping to get his first clean sheet of his career at YOSA.
The first segment of the encounter was played at a walking pace as both tacticians appeared to have done a lot to ensure they get a result from the game.
YOSA had the best scoring opportunities in the opening 45 minutes but failed to capitalize on their chances as Avion Academy keeper Manuel Nkoulou intervened in as many occasions to keep the score goalless.
The clubs returned after the pause with hopes of being more purposeful especially in the penalty area. The hosts were soon behind just three minutes into the half after Adama beat Mohamed in goal for YOSA to put Avion Academy ahead for the first time in two games this season.
As YOSA pressed to get the equalizer, Avion Academy scored the second which put coach Muth’s team in a comfortable 2-0 situation with just over half hour left.
Attempts by YOSA to find their way back into the contest even with the substitute proved futile as Avion Academy’s combative midfield mounted by Robert Tamatieu combined with their back four of Api Eric, Nonos Adrien and captain Gael Eroume to shot out YOSA throughout the rest of the disappointing afternoon nothing worked for captain Nchindo and mates.
The result earns Avion’s first three points of the campaign and puts them back among the contenders while YOSA remains on a point from two games and already lurking around the relegation zone they occupied during most of last season.
Avion Academy have a game in hand against UMS of Loum but counts four points from the win and their previous draw.
Match day four matches will be played on Wednesday across the country and provides an opportunity for clubs to improve their situation so far.
