New Warriors of Zimbabwe head coach, Michael Nees has arrived the country to begin work, three weeks after he picked up the job to lead the men’s national football team.

Nees was appointed and confirmed by ZIFA earlier this month on a two-year contract but couldn’t move in before now due to administrative issues.

After his permit was issued, the German coach touched down at the Robert Mugabe International Airport on Wednesday afternoon.

He was unveiled on Thursday and is expected to attend some Castle Lager Premiership Matchday 24 games this weekend.

He will make his first major move as the Warriors trainer this weekend as he is expected to publish the squad of players to face Cameroon and Kenya in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

“On the issue of squad announcement we will have to hear from the coach, for now, he is doing the formalities and settling in,” Manwa Yvonne, ZIFA CEO told the media.

Zimbabwe play Kenya in a Group J qualifier at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, Uganda on September 6.

Kenya are hosting their matches in Kampala because their stadia are being renovated.

It is the same situation for Zimbabwe as they will also play host to Cameroon in Kampala on September 10.

“Both matches will be held at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, Uganda, and will mark the first competitive outings for the Warriors under the leadership of newly-appointed head coach Michael Nees,” the Zimbabwe Football Association wrote on Wednesday.

While Confirming the arrival of Nees, Zifa chief executive officer, Yvonne Manwa, also assured that the German’s work permit was in order.

The 57-year-old Nees has been entrusted to lead the Warriors in their quest to qualify for the 2025 African Cup of Nations finals.

He will also has to guide Zimbabwe through the FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
