TP Mazembe claimed third place at the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League after a confident 3–1 victory over Egypt’s Masar in Cairo, inspired by a first-half masterclass that set the tone for a dominant display, kick442.com can report.
Mazembe struck early through Ruth Adesina, who finished off a clever move orchestrated by Katleho Mohlakoana after just 17 minutes. But the advantage didn’t last long. Masar responded three minutes later when Helene Ubamba calmly converted from an Asisat Ogebe assist to pull the hosts level at 1–1.
The Congolese regained control before the interval. First, Yav Kasaj restored Mazembe’s lead from the penalty spot in the 41st minute after sustained pressure forced a defensive mistake. Two minutes into added time, Kasaj struck again — this time from open play — finishing another well-timed delivery from Mohlakoana to make it 3–1 at the break.
The second half was far more controlled, with Mazembe dictating the rhythm while Masar chased the game without much incision. The Egyptians’ best chance to mount a comeback came in the 80th minute, when Yara Zezo stepped up for a penalty but failed to convert, summing up Masar’s frustrations.
Both coaches rang the changes, but the flow of the match remained the same: Mazembe resolute, Masar hopeful but blunt. Substitute Sarah Oluwayemis had two late chances, including a stoppage-time effort, but Masar never found the breakthrough that could have sparked a late twist.
Mazembe’s disciplined performance ensured a deserved bronze finish — a fitting reward for a side that showed clear identity, purpose and maturity throughout the tournament. Masar, meanwhile, will look back on wasted opportunities, especially the missed penalty, that cost them a chance to fight their way back into the contest.
