Amir Abdou is eyeing a 16th game without defeat in his era as head coach of the Mauritania National teams. The French tactician who is also unbeaten in nine outings with the Mauritania home base team goes into this Friday’s quarter-final confrontation with Senegal hoping his side shows character again.

Since Amir replaced Didier Gomes Da Rosa in March last year there has been a massive improvement in the country’s performances and results.

Ahead of their quarter-final clash against the local Teranga Lions Amir wants his team to continue the ride;

“Qualifying for the quarter-final is a dream for us. We want to keep dreaming and continue to make it a happy dream. We have to be at our best to defeat Senegal,” the emotional trainer said while mourning his FA’s vice president Pape Dieng who died after the win against Mali.

“It’s down to hard work. When I took over Mauritania they had potential. Our league back home is not the reference point in Africa, but we have our strengths and listening players. We have worked really hard like Comoros. Now we want to write a story with Mauritania.

“I have told my players that we have reached this stage and we can’t go back. We have to give our all in the quarter-final,” the trained stated.

This being the first quarter-final appearance for the Al Mourabitones and the first CHAN meeting between both nations there will be huge attention on the West African derby with neutrals hoping the game produces as much sparks as previous meetings between both nations in previous events.

Mauritania played a goalless draw draw with Angola and beat last edition’s finalist Mali 1-0 to book this appointment against Senegal who beat Cote D’Ivoire and DR Congo by 1-0 and 3-0 respectively to top Group D and reach only a second quarter-final in history.

The neighbors separated by a few miles will settle their footballing contest from 8PM local time in the presence of thousands of fans who will turn out for the 8PM kick-off.

The winner of the game will face the victorious side from the Madagascar versus Mozambique quarter-final.
