The head coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, Marc Peter Brys will attend Friday’s preparatory meeting for next month Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier matches scheduled at the conference hall of Cameroon’s Ministry of Sports and physical education.

Our sources have confirmed Brys will be a part of the meeting on Friday, in what will be his first public activity for a while.

“In view of the preparations of the international matches planned for September 7 and 10th 2024 in Cameroon and Uganda, I have the honour to invite you for a meeting I will preside over on August 23 from 11AM,” the minister’s invitation which Brys and his staff received read.

The meeting scheduled by minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi is expected to be attended by representatives of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), related services from the ministry of Sports and other related services with the aim of fine-tuning strategy for the two games scheduled next month.

Though the letter convening the meeting doesn’t mention the main subject of the preparations, the issue of the match venue which has been dragging between Yaoundé and Douala.

Brys who is already in Cameroon and working with his assistance will be in the meeting, alongside his deputy Joachim Manunga, Ashu Bessong Cyprian plus Benjamin Didier Banlock and Mveng Roger who are the government-appointed Coordinator and deputy Coordinator respectively of the national team.

The match in Cameroon against Namibia marks the opening round of qualifiers. Historically, Namibia is a familiar foe. Cameroon is seeking redemption after a 2-1 defeat to Namibia in the 2023 qualifiers. The reversed encounter at home ended in a 1-1 draw in Yaoundé, featuring goals from Peter Shalulile and Olivier Kemen.

Cameroon faces injury challenges, notably losing Faris Moumbagna to a severe knee injury, while Moumi Ngamaleu is also sidelined.

Despite these setbacks, coach Marc Brys has a strong squad, including Bryan Mbeumo, who recently scored for Brentford, and Andre Onana, who kept a clean sheet for Manchester United.

The Indomitable Lions will convene for training starting September 1, with the final squad announcement expected soon.
