The legal team of Marc Peter Brys, the head coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon has revealed the trainer was a victim of an attempted scam and extortion by an agent in his recent saga of resignation at the helm of the Indomitable Lions.

“The Coach-Selector of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon is a victim of an attempted scam and extortion by a well-identified Cameroonian national, pretending to be a FIFA player agent. This individual, perfectly aware that Marc Brys had over two months of salary arrears, maliciously proposed to undertake moves with the Cameroonian Administration as a facilitator to regularize his salary situation; this against remuneration […] Faced with Marc Peter Brys’ categorical refusal to accept this proposal and against all expectations, the individual, without our client’s knowledge or approval, instead wrote a pseudo-resignation letter, hacking and affixing Mr. BRYS’ scanned signature to give it an authentic character. He also rushed to send this letter to the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) via the national postal service, with the sole aim of likely harming the Coach-Selector of the Indomitable Lions. It should be noted that the suspect is not new to this kind of attempt. He is known both abroad and in Cameroonian sports circles for acts of scams and embezzlement.”

For starters, just over a week ago, a letter had Marc Brys flooded the social media, allegedly written by Marc Brys in which he stepped down from his role as the coach of Cameroon. Only that, a few hours after the letter was released and reports aired by various media organizations, Brys issued a release, disowning the first letter, starting his email had been hacked, while reaffirming his commitment to stay as the national team coach. The turn of events and the minister’s approach towards it rather spiked FECAFOOT who maintained Brys had formally told them he us stepping down. They went as far as tagging him the ex-coach of the Indomitable Lions.

Brys arrived in Cameroon this August 2. During his time in the country, he will be received at the presidency, to publish the list of preselected players for the September international break amongst others.

Cameroon chasing their ninth appearance in the FIFA World Cup will face Cabo Verde and Eswatini in crucial 2026 global showpiece qualifier matches in Praia and Yaounde next month.
