Confusion continues to cloud the leadership of the Indomitable Lions after head coach Marc Brys officially denied having resigned from his position, just hours after a letter allegedly bearing his name and announcing his departure was circulated online and submitted to the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT).
In an urgent letter addressed to the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Prof. Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, Brys firmly denied authoring or transmitting any resignation. He stated that his personal messaging system may have been compromised, calling the alleged letter a result of a probable cyber-attack. “I have never written or submitted any letter of resignation,” Brys wrote, insisting that the document in circulation was fake and maliciously intended to destabilize the national team setup.
Brys expressed surprise that FECAFOOT had not attempted to verify the authenticity of the letter with him before acting on it, labeling the federation’s reaction hasty and damaging. He reiterated his commitment to fulfilling his mission as national team coach, despite ongoing administrative challenges linked to contract implementation.
Following this clarification, the Ministry of Sports released an official communiqué confirming that the alleged resignation was unfounded. According to the communiqué, the Ministry only became aware of the matter through social media, around the same time it received a letter from FECAFOOT with the subject “Surprise resignation of Mr. Marc Brys,” accompanied by a copy of the so-called resignation letter.
The Minister of Sports, Prof. Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, stated that he immediately contacted Marc Brys by phone and received a formal email from the coach denying the resignation. On this basis, he reassured the national and international public that Marc Brys remains in office and is committed to guiding the Indomitable Lions toward their objectives.
The Ministry also clarified that as of July 18, 2025, all salary arrears owed to Brys had been settled by the Ministry of Finance, effectively ruling out payment delays as a motive for resignation.
Citing Brys’ “appreciable results” since his appointment, the Minister reaffirmed the state’s confidence in him and called on FECAFOOT to uphold professionalism and cooperation with the coaching staff. He urged for unity and calm as the country prepares for critical fixtures, including the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers and the final phase of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
As of now, FECAFOOT has yet to respond officially to the rebuttal from both Marc Brys and the Ministry. However, a document circulating online suggests the federation acknowledged receipt of a parcel believed to contain Brys’ alleged resignation letter.
