Reigning Tanzania champions Yanga SC have completed the signing of experienced Cameroonian forward Emmanuel Dikongue Mahop from Canon Yaounde on a two-year contract.
The 28-year-old who won the golden boot in last season’s Cameroon top-flight championship arrives with a huge reputation and expectation as he is expected to fill the void created by the departure of last season’s top scorer Fiston Kalala Mayele.
Mahop, a former goalkeeper converted into a striker three years ago scored 11 goals and made four assists last season for Canon Yaounde. His brilliance across the season earned him a national team call up and his debut for the Indomitable Lions, against Namibia during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier match in South Africa in June this year.
Mahop, a former striker for Akonangi FC of Equatorial Guinea will return abroad after just a year in the Cameroon top-flight championship.
His switch to Yanga SC makes him the third Cameroonian to join the club this close season transfer window. Willy Esombe Onana Leandre and Che Malone Fondoh Junior joined archrivals Simba SC earlier in the season.
