Luxolo September has publicly dismissed reports suggesting that the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations could be postponed, branding the claims as “fiction”.

The reaction came after a report circulated online alleging that the tournament, scheduled to be hosted jointly by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, was facing a potential delay due to concerns over infrastructure readiness.

In response, September took to social media with a brief but pointed message, writing “FICTION” in reaction to the claims. His post quickly drew attention, adding to the growing debate around preparations for the expanded continental showpiece.

The 2027 edition of AFCON is set to be staged in East Africa under the “Pamoja” bid, marking the first time the three neighbouring nations will co-host the competition. Since the hosting rights were awarded, organisers have maintained that infrastructure development and logistical planning are progressing according to schedule.

Reports questioning the readiness of the host nations have surfaced periodically, particularly regarding stadium upgrades and transport networks. However, no official statement from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has indicated that the tournament is under threat of postponement.

September’s firm dismissal reflects confidence among stakeholders who believe preparations remain on track. With more than a year before the tournament is due to take place, attention is likely to remain fixed on construction timelines and CAF’s periodic inspection updates.

For now, despite speculation in sections of the media, there has been no formal confirmation of any change to the 2027 AFCON schedule.
