Lobi Stars endured a narrow 1-0 loss to Bendel Insurance in a highly competitive Nigeria Premier Football League Matchday 18 encounter at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin on Saturday.

The ‘Alia Boys’ dominated the initial stages, creating multiple scoring opportunities but failing to capitalize on them.

From the 12th minute onwards, Japheth Kundushima, Peter Onah, John Mark Aule, and Ifeanyi Assurance launched a relentless attack, but the deadlock remained unbroken at halftime.

The second half saw Lobi Stars continue to push forward, earning several set pieces. In the 63rd minute, Peter Onah’s stunning shot was cleared off the line by an Insurance defender.

In the 83rd minute, Isaac Annor took advantage of a well-placed strike to give the hosts the lead.

Despite tactical adjustments and fresh substitutions, the ‘Pride of Benue’ couldn’t find the equalizer, and the game ended 1-0.

Coach Mika Lönnström reacted to the press shortly after the match, lamenting the missed chances.

“We played well but failed to convert set pieces into goals. We’ll address these lapses in training,” he noted.

Lobi Stars will next face Heartland FC at home in the final game of the first leg.
