Legendary Malian trainer Mohamed Magasouba is drawing plaudits as he embarks on a campaign to better the capacity of his peers via a three-day capacity building event organised by the Union of Central African Football Federation (UNIFFAC) in Douala.
The 67-year-old current St Eloi Lupopo Technical Director and 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN) runners-up with Mali sparkled this Wednesday as he drilled women’s national team coaches of the eight UNIFFAC member associations on multiple subjects amongst which are ‘the psychological needs of a player to reach the height’ of the game.
Coach Magasouba, a CAF instructor arrived Cameroon on Monday on invitation from UNIFFAC on president Jean Guy Blaise Mayolas.
The multiple presentations lasting over 30 minutes each on the needs to breakthrough which started with a group work presentation from all the coaches saw coach Magasouba detail these needs amongst others.
The astute trainer with an over 30 years experience in the job also stretched on the need of a good fitness plan and trainer to meet the demands of reaching the heights of a player’s potential.
He brings a bag of experience to the table. Though born in Mali, Magassouba coached in Zaïre, later the Democratic Republic of the Congo, during the 1990s, with the teams Style du Congo, FC Saint-Éloi Lupopo, AS Vita Club and DC Motema Pembe. He was then assistant coach and head coach of DR Congo’s national team.
In the mid-2000s he managed Delta Téléstar of Gabon and Stade Malien of his home country.
He finally had his chance in his country’s lead team as caretaker manager of Mali between September 2017 and July 2019, before becoming permanent manager in October 2019.
In July 2022 he was announced as the new manager of Saint-Éloi but has since moved to the role of Technical Director of the club that has Cameroon International Simon Omossola on their books.
