Cameroon’s Elite One top scorer, Jules Armand Kooh, is set to join Tunisian powerhouse Club Africain on a three-year contract.
The 24-year-old forward has been a standout performer for Astres of Douala, where he found the back of the net an impressive 24 times across all competitions in the 2023/2024 season, showcasing his knack for scoring in clutch moments.
His prolific scoring has drawn interest from several Cameroonian clubs, including Cotonsport and Dynamo de Douala, but he has chosen to take his talents to the Tunisian Ligue Professionelle 1.
Kooh’s footballing journey began at Savannah before he made a name for himself at Avion Academy in Douala. After stints with Stade Renard and a return to Avion, he rejoined Astres de Douala in 2022. His breakout season in 2023 saw him clinch the golden boot, outshining favorites like Katche Boris and Boris Mfoumou.
His outstanding performance earned him a call-up to Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions, first in June against Cape Verde. An alleged age forgery—which was later proven false—sidelined the 24-year-old for the match against Angola. However, he was recalled by Marc Brys as the only home-based player in the squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in September.
Although he hasn’t logged any minutes with the national team yet, this marks his first selection at any level after narrowly missing out on the intermediate lions back in 2021.
With extensive club experience across four teams in Cameroon and international exposure with Cameroon’s national team, Kooh fits the profile for Club Africain as officials seek a versatile player to help them climb the ranks in their championship.
Founded in 1920 in Tunis, Club Africain is one of Tunisia’s most storied football clubs. Initially named “Club islamique africain,” its establishment faced hurdles due to colonial regulations, leading to a delayed kickoff. The club adopted its current name and colors—red and white—while maintaining ties to its predecessor, Stade Africain.
The team boasts a rich trophy cabinet with 39 titles: 29 national and 10 international. Domestically, it has claimed 13 Tunisian championships since 1947 and won 13 Tunisian Cups. Internationally, highlights include lifting the African Champions Cup in 1991 and the African Cup Winners’ Cup in 1992.
Last season, the side struggled in the playoffs, finishing sixth after a respectable third-place finish in the regular season.
Looking ahead to the 2024-2025 season, they currently sit fourth with three points from one match as they aim to improve their standing both domestically and on the continental stage.
The club is focused on rebuilding and enhancing its squad to compete more effectively against rivals, particularly in the Tunisian league and African tournaments.
The side will host JS Omrane this Sunday for matchday two of the league.
