Zamalek SC have expressed interest in signing experienced Cameroonian defender Joseph Jonathan Ngwem from rivals Modern Future FC, kick442.com has exclusively learnt.

According to sources close to the deal, both parties have opened negotiations which could cause the switch and bring an end to Ngwem’s three-year stay on the books of Modern Future.

33-year-old Ngwem is currently valued at $700k by Transfermkt but being a free agent after his previous contract at Modern Future expired. Now Zamalek and other suitors may have to pay a little less to get the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner in their ranks.

Signing Ngwem will be a massive addition to the options available for Zamalek SC given his knowledge of Egyptian football which has been garnered during spells at El Gouna and Modern Future since 2018.

Zamalek is expected to make an official offer to sign Ngwem, and his entourage will study, compare with other options and provide a feedback on the way forward.

Ngwem, winner of the 2017 AFCON in Gabon as part of the group of dedicated Cameroon players who completed the miracle of Libreville, Gabon.
