Burkina Faso confirmed their place in the knockout stages by sealing second position in the group with a composed 2–0 victory over Sudan, delivering a performance built on control, patience, and efficiency. With qualification firmly in sight, the Stallions approached the encounter with maturity, managing the rhythm of the game and choosing their moments carefully to ensure the result they needed.

From the opening minutes, Burkina Faso asserted authority through possession, pinning Sudan back with neat passing sequences and sustained pressure. Early corners and territorial dominance hinted at an opening goal, which arrived in the 16th minute. Lassina Traoré climbed above the defence to meet a perfectly weighted cross, steering a powerful header inside the left post to reward Burkina Faso’s strong start.

Sudan were presented with a crucial opportunity to respond when they were awarded a penalty midway through the first half. The stadium held its breath, but Al Gozoli Nooh dragged his effort narrowly wide, a miss that proved decisive. Instead of conceding control, Burkina Faso tightened their defensive block and slowed the tempo, ensuring Sudan never capitalised on that moment of opportunity.

The Sudanese side continued to show fight, fashioning chances through Yasir Mozamil and Aamir Abdallah, but a lack of composure in front of goal let them down. Burkina Faso’s back line remained disciplined, while their midfield calmly recycled possession, frustrating Sudan and forcing them into rushed decisions as the first half drew to a close.

After the break, Burkina Faso’s game management became even more pronounced. Substitutions injected fresh legs without disturbing the team’s balance, and the pressure gradually told. The defining moment arrived in the 85th minute, when Arsène Kouassi outstanding throughout the contest made a perfectly timed run into the box, controlled a delightful pass, and fired a low, precise shot into the bottom corner to seal the win.

Kouassi’s goal crowned an exceptional all-round display, earning him the Man of the Match award. Beyond the decisive finish, he was relentless in his movement, intelligent in his positioning, and tireless in his defensive contribution, embodying Burkina Faso’s collective strength.

At the final whistle, the Stallions had not only secured second place in the group but also sent a clear message: organised, confident, and efficient, they are ready for the knockout challenge ahead.
