Austrian Bundesliga giants Red Bull Salzburg secured the return 25-year-old club legend Jerome Junior Onguéné from German side Eintranch Frankfurt as we first reported earlier today.
The sweeper who left Austria less than six months ago is back to where he became a complete footballer.
Onguéné previously enjoyed a five-year stay at Salzburg before switching to Frankfurt where his time hasn’t gone as planned due to form and fitness issues.
Loved by many at the Red Bull Arena, where he won four league and cup doubles, Onguéné returns as a proven sweeper – expected to quick-fix their defensive woes this term.
The former France Youth international who pledged his allegiance to Cameroon and won his first senior international cap in October 2018, against Malawi is expected to get more game time at Salzburg.
The 2016 European Youth championship winner as a key player for France was part of Cameroon’s AFCON 2021 squad guided to a third place finish by Antonio Conceicao. The versatile defender was instrumental in the running to the third place finish, but failed to make the cut for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
A return to the Austrian Bundesliga is a near assurance of more minutes which will improve his chances of returning to the Lions den, to add to his ten international caps.
