- A win will see ISOHSA tighten their grip on a playoff qualification spot
- ISOHSA is yet to defeat AS FAP since ascending to Elite 2 – 3 draws and a loss
- FAP will be hoping to replicate their January heroics and spoil the home side’s party once again
The Tiko Town Green Stadium is expected to come alive this Saturday, April 12, as Isle of Hope Sports Academy (ISOHSA) welcomes AS FAP of Yaoundé in a highly anticipated Matchday 16 clash of the MTN Elite Two championship.
Currently sitting third on the league table with 21 points, ISOHSA will be seeking not only to tighten their grip on a playoff qualification spot but also to rewrite the script against a side that has historically proven difficult for them. AS FAP, sixth with 17 points, are also chasing momentum to climb up the standings and remain in contention.
The encounter could be dubbed a revenge mission for the Limbe-based outfit, who suffered a stinging 3-0 defeat to FAP back in January. The game which counter for matchday 7 of the Elite 2 saw Noel Rodrigue, Robert Bertrand and Igor Marius finding the back of the net in a comfortable victory for AS FAP.
That loss was the latest chapter in what has become a frustrating rivalry for ISOHSA, who have failed to register a single win against FAP in four encounters – drawing three and losing one.
Following their 3-1 victory over Union Sportive Abon-Mbang last weekend, Captain Ashu Brice praised the resolve of his fellow teammates. He said: “The victory means a lot to us because it’s like a final to us. For us, taking this game and winning this game is a source of encouragement, and I’m very happy because of my teammates. We’re so committed, determined, and courageous.
“Our past three matches away have been a very difficult one for us. I can say it’s our fault. The organization was very, very poor and our coming back is a huge sign for us because of the lapses we have tried to cover all of them and that is why we have come in very full. We will come in full force to win our remaining games and it means a lot for us.”
A win for ISOHSA would not only end their winless run against FAP but also move them closer to securing a spot in the playoff round, edging them nearer to their dream of top-flight promotion.
For their part, AS FAP will be hoping to replicate their January heroics and spoil the home side’s party once again, banking on their psychological advantage and a tactically disciplined setup.
