Cameroon defender Jean-Charles Castelletto has been spotted training with his club Al-Duhail SC just days before the start of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, despite being officially ruled out of the tournament through injury by the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT).
Earlier this month, FECAFOOT confirmed that the central defender had been declared medically unfit and subsequently withdrawn from the Lions Indomptables’ final AFCON squad. The federation stated that the decision was taken on medical grounds, without disclosing further details on the injury or recovery timeline.
However, recent images and reports from Al-Duhail’s training sessions in Qatar showing Castelletto actively participating have reignited debate among Cameroonian supporters and football observers. The development has raised questions over the consistency between the federation’s medical position and the player’s apparent readiness at club level.
Neither FECAFOOT nor Al-Duhail have issued an official statement addressing the situation since the images emerged. Castelletto has also not commented publicly.
The absence of the experienced defender is viewed as a significant blow for Cameroon ahead of AFCON 2025, where the five-time champions will be aiming for a deep run in the competition. As the tournament draws closer, pressure continues to mount on the federation to provide greater clarity surrounding one of the most talked-about omissions from the Lions Indomptables squad.
