Chelsea youngster Benjamin Njongoue Elliott, was a surprised addition in Rigobert Song’s provisional list of 34 players preselected for Cameroon’s double header AFCON qualifiers against Namibia.
Elliot previously captained England Under-15s, where he made his debut in 2016 against Turkey.
The 20-year-old attacking midfielder, qualifies to represent both countries as he was born in England but has a Cameroonian parent.
Shortly after Rigobert Song’s list of 34 preselected players was made public on Friday, the starlet took to his Instagram story to celebrate his called up.
“Very happy to have been selected by the indomitable lions,” he wrote via Instagram.
His comments would be greatly appreciated by many Cameroonians, as it gives hopes of him honouring Song’s invitation and potentially swapping England for Cameroon.
Ben Elliot is among the most exciting young prospects playing at Chelsea, but will now hope to make it into Song’s final list, ahead of their two matches against Namibia, counting for the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifications.
The youngster has been at Chelsea since the age of eight, but Signed his first professional contract with the club in November 2019.
